Memory of a First Job

Artistic Rendition Of A Name Tag Bouncing Off The Sidewalk

The manager called me to his office.

I was set for my employee discount,

Only to get fired from my first job.

I contained myself for a few moments

And texted my mom to get me early

As I went out to the curb and let loose.

I tossed aside my dumb little name tag

As a big smile stretched across my face.

No more of those terrible managers,

No more of all the so-so customers,

No more useless union pinching my pay

Despite doing nothing at all for me

But fire me on the 89th day.

I thank that job for one sole thing:

Making me never want a job like that one.
